SGT lays the first stone for its new Chalon-sur-Saône factory
SGT laid the first stone for the company's new factory at Chalon-sur-Saône
The project which had been announced in October 2017 is now officially under way.
The company which manufactures polyethylene terephthalate (PET) preforms and specialises in liquid packaging solutions is investing nearly 28 million Euro in a 4th production factory in order to meet growing demand from the packaging market.
The site is located on a 5-hectare plot which the company had just acquired on the outskirts of the town, at the Saôneor business park.
The future 10,000 m² factory should be operational from spring 2019. Once its activities start it will be employing around forty people and will produce nearly a billion preforms, converting 30,000 tonnes of raw materials.
The factory will therefore have the highest production technologies, combining energy performance with the smallest environmental footprint possible, and will be equipped with the latest generation automated systems. It will also meet all food hygiene, quality and safety standards.
And still with this eco-responsible approach in mind, SGT has decided to develop a recycled plastic (RPET) production unit for its own use. This excellent-quality RPET suitable for food contact will be used to produce new “bottle-to-bottle” preforms. This recycling channel will have an initial processing capacity of 12,000 tonnes per year.
With this new factory SGT is making an active contribution to the collective objective of developing a fairer and more environmentally-friendly economy. By encouraging the recycling of used plastic bottles, the company is speeding up its transition to a circular model.
